The MG Magnette ZA/ZB was the first model of car to be based on another manufacture's, the Wolsley 444. The Magnette with its redesigned grille and MG badge was a sports version of the 444 and in turn was more desirable. The main importance of this model was its B-Series engine, which went on to power the very popular later MGA and MGB models.

1955 saw MG launch a new modern looking sports car this model was the MGA. With its clean lines and good aerodynamics it became a massive success at home and abroad with over 101,000 cars being sold before its end of run in 1962.

In 1959 BMC decided to launch a model that it could share throughout its companies Riley's version was the Riley 4/68,Wolseley the 1560,Austin the A60 and MG had the MG Magnette Mk 3-4.

Mg launched the MG Midget in 1961; it was MG's smallest model and entirely based on the Austin Healey Sprite. Mg's badge and all round image was just too good for the Sprite to compete with and Midget sales were almost double those of the Sprite.

The MGB was by far the most wanted car in the world and after its launch in 1962 it soon became the world's best selling sports car. A mantle it had taken from the MGA, with its improvements such as wind up windows !
